Villas and Gardens

Here comes a small selection of neoclassic marvellous villas characterized by superb parks and gardens present Como lake natural layout, it’s overawed by alternate of season colours that always give different and superb pictures 

Villa Olmo
Most famous and sumptuous among other villas in Como; it was built for Innocenzo Odescalchi will on Simone Cantoni project where a big elm stand; even if modified and enlarged, it maintains the original neoclassic plant. Inside there’s a big hall with eighteenth century wall painting, little rooms and a small theatre painted by Fontana. From Odescalchi the property passed to Visconti di Modrone and in 1924 to municipality that use as cultural events, art exhibition and conferences set.  

 

Villa Erba Mannerist inspiration was built at the end of nineteenth century for homonym family wish, used to welcome great guests from cultural politic and industrial range. Propriety   in twentieth get on to Carla Erba, Visconti di Modrone’s wife and famous director Luchino Visconti’s mother. The two floors villa has a central staircase and a panoramic pinnacle   that overtop, during summer flat stairs that run toward lake give a sole outside.

 

Villa Carlotta Building characterised by staircases and Italian style garden, with more than five hundred species botanic heritage. It was built in XXVIII century by Marchioness Cleric  then modified in neoclassic style by Count Sommariva, you can admire original furniture and many valued art works. The big and landscaping garden was built by subsequent owners Sachsen-Meiningen Dukes. Wide views in center lake to Bellagio, Grigne and Legnone.

 

Villa Balbianello Balbiano’s residence originate as aristocratic Giovio’s family home, in 1787 was bought by Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini. On that small pensinsula where already stand a church and a convent Cardinal attracted from peerless view, one side Tremezzina or Venere Gulf, other side Comacina island or Diana Gulf, decided to build an elegant lodge with two halls, a library and a music hall. Both villa and garden were enriched by subsequent owners with English and  French Style furniture and many art collections.

 

Villa Melzi  was built between 1808 and 1810 by Giocondo Albertolli on Francesco Melzi d’Eril assignment; he was Italian reign chancellor and Napoleone’s friend. The Villa was originally a summer residence, in neoclassic style as one of the beginning of eighteenth century.
Villa is whole surrounded by English style gardens that decrease to the lake. Mostly neoclassic inside, keeps important art works, you ‘ll find decorated walls by Albertolli, painting by Appiani, sculptures by Canova and Giuseppe Bossi’s frescos.
